FEATURES OF THE NIGERIAN COUNCIL OF FOOD SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (NiCFoST) LOGO AND INTERPRETATION OF THE ARTWORK AND DESIGN

The logo of the Nigerian Council of Food Science and Technology (NiCFoST) was developed on the 20th July, 2020 to capture the diversity of the Food Science and Technology (FST) Profession. The logo is designed to highlight the dynamics of the Food Scientists/Professionals whose training and practice are regulated by NiCFoST.

BELOW ARE THE FEATURES OF THE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS.
The GEAR WHEEL has six arms with the hole for the drive shaft at the centre which is complete with a keyhole on the top side of it. The six sections created by the arms contain the relevant iconic symbols of relevant aspects of the FST Profession. The GEAR WHEEL simply shows that the Food Science and Technology (FST) Profession is anchored on a science and technology discipline which applies technology tools to solve food problems and produce goods and services. It also highlights the fact that FST is a part of the industrial community making significant contributions to wealth and job creation.

The COAT OF ARMS indicates government ownership and appropriately appears symbolically as the shaft that transmits power which drives the wheel to perform its functions.

The BOOK indicates the role of education in the development of the FST. It captures the fact that the NiCFoST  will regulate the training of FST Professionals.

The LABORATORY TOOLS (microscope and flasks) captures the role FST Professionals will play in research as well as in Food safety (vovering the span of chemical and biological food safety matters).

The SLAUGHTERED HEALTHY POULTRY AND FULLY RIPE HARVESTED CORN indicates the commencement of conversion of agricultural harvests into food products by Certified FST Professionals which proceeds after harvest. They also cover the range of interest in foods from both plant and animal origin.

The PROCESSED FOOD PRODUCTS PACKAGED IN A BOTTLE represents the end products of the endeavours of FST Professionals. It also shows that food and beverage products that are properly packaged and labelled with all regulatory approvals are some of the most visible outputs from the work of certified food professionals to the society.
